Could we see the Reserve lowering rates and a Major Bank raising them at the same time? Meanwhile our new Premier has wasted no time announcing that the reinstatement of the Stamp Duty Concession for Owner Occupiers has been approved by Cabinet......

  • Talk Of Recovery For The Australian House Market

Posted 25.11.11 In this weeks property news, Christopher Joye says the Australian housing market is set for recovery in the first quarter of 2012. While he expects housing activity to revitalize in 2012, it will not flow through to the price data until the end of March or April. Joye says… “With the ability to now get three-year fixed-rate home loans for 5.99%, and 6.39% variable-rate loans, there is understandably excitement brewing about the prospect of a recovery in the Aussie housing market. • When Is The Best Time To Start Looking To Buy?

Posted 28.10.11 The Housing Industry Association (HIA) are taking a punt to see interest rates cut this Melbourne Cup. The latest inflation figures leave the path clear for an immediate rate cut, according the HIA. Almost everyone would remember the shock rise at last year’s cup day meeting, let’s see what Tuesday brings. There has been a fair bit of hype this week surrounding the direction of next week’s interest rates; however an article in the Sydney Morning Herald titled “a rate cut won’t rescue the market” points out that even if the RBA cut the rates next month its most likely effect on the property market will be ‘zilch to negligible’. “Is......

  • Are More People Buying, Selling or Renting & Are Prices Going Up or Down?

Posted 22.10.11 In this week’s property news, REIQ Gold Coast Zone Chair John Newlands said “the market conditions on the Gold Coast are the most advantageous they have been in many years for buyers”. The Gold Coast property market continues to be impacted by reduced demand, tough construction and development environments and unemployment.  Newlands says “there are currently properties available which are priced near or below replacement cost and serious investors are recognising the prime time for buying is now. The prestige and water front areas of the coast, particularly, continue to offer significantly discounted properties.” There is clear evidence that the prestige markets on the Gold Coast are suffering as an......
